How to Manually Configure APN Settings on Your Phone

When your mobile eSIM shows it’s connected to a network but your data isn’t working, the culprit is often missing or incorrectly configured APN settings.

What Are APN Settings?

The Access Point Name (APN) is the gateway between your device and your carrier’s network. Most of the time APN settings are configured automatically during the eSIM activation process, but if they’re missing or incorrect, you’ll need to configure your device manually. Without the correct APN, mobile data and hotspot features might not work.

How to Manually Configure APN on iPhone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Mobile Data (or Cellular, depending on your iOS version).
  3. Select eSIM to configure
  4. Select Mobile Data Network.
  5. Under APN, enter exactly as it appears on the eSIM instructions, typically all lowercase
  6. Leave the Username and Password fields blank
  7. Exit Settings — your changes will save automatically.
  8. Switch your phone to flight mode, then back off again to make sure the settings take effect.

How to Manually Configure APN on Android

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Network & Internet (this may be Connections on Samsung).
  3. Choose Mobile Network.
  4. Tap Access Point Names (APN).
  5. Select Add New APN or tap +.
  6. Enter the APN details provided by your carrier or eSIM provider.
  7. Save your changes and select the new APN profile.
  8. If your data doesn’t work right away, restart your phone after saving the new APN.

Troubleshooting APN Issues

  • Double-check spelling—APN entries are case-sensitive
  • Restart your device after saving the new APN settings
  • If you can’t find your APN settings, make sure your phone is unlocked from your carrier and supports eSIMs.

FAQs

Do I always need to set the APN manually?
No. The majority of our Earth Esim plans are configured automatically during the activation process.

What happens if my APN is wrong?
Your mobile data and hotspot may stop working.

My eSIM plan covers multiple countries — do I need a different APN for each one?
No. Just one APN is needed to work across all countries included in your eSIM plan.

How do I find my APN?
You can find your APN settings in the setup instructions provided with your eSIM.

Will switching flight mode help after changing APN?
Yes. Turning flight mode on and then off refreshes the connection and applies the new settings.

What if my phone can’t find the APN settings menu?
Ensure your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. Some carriers block APN access on locked devices, which often happens with phones purchased within Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.
